Charlotte Crowl was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 17. The treatment she had, caused a very rare side-effect … with the result that she had to learn to walk and talk again. She’ll be telling her story at this year’s edition of Divas of Colour, but she chats here about some of her favourite things …
Name: Charlotte Crowl
Best Known For: Author of “Cancer: The Hidden Truth”
Describe yourself in three words: Student of life
Previous occupation: Music Promoter
12-month goal: To be a better version of myself
Describe your outlook & what makes your work/brand, unique: I don’t tell people what to do, I help people realise something for themselves. Then, they use my advise or journey to guide them.
Your greatest career highlights to date: Self-publishing a book
Is international appeal important to you? Yes, I would love to help people all over the world.
Most important piece of equipment you use in your career: Laptop
A typical day for you is: Wake up and meditate, exercise, eat and get ready, make a to-do list and work through it. Some days, I have speaking engagements or phone meetings. No two days are exactly the same for me. But, before I go to bed, I wind down and meditate.
What legacy would you like to leave? I want people to be able to look at my life journey and be inspired, learn from my mistakes, take action to improve their lifestyle and most importantly, never give up.
What is the hardest professional decision you’ve ever had to make? Shutting down a business I worked hard on, because it wasn’t working out financially
Your biggest career mistake: I wouldn’t say anything is a mistake, only a lesson to be learnt from. Some of my decisions have been too hasty, which led to the outcomes not being as I had hoped
Most common & avoidable mistake you see in younger people in your career: Impatience.
Single piece of advice you give your mentees: Make your passion your career because when times get hard (and they will get hard), having something you love and believe in gives you more reason to keep fighting. Trust in your journey.
You live in: East London
Favourite food: Ackee & saltfish
Biggest life lesson you’ve learned: I have three things that I try to live by. Be grateful; know that a thought only becomes something if you react or take action; and live in the moment, because your current situation isn’t your final destination.
What do you do for leisure? Eat out, cinema, spend time with friends and family, yoga and learn new things.
One app or piece of technology you cannot do without: My phone (covers face)
Your most over-used word/phrase: “Erm …”
