My Mentoring Club
I never set out to be a mentor.
And I don’t have all the answers.
But I know what being unsure of your next step, feels like. I still have some of those days.
And I know how much of a burden it takes off of my shoulders, when I have someone who is more experienced, in my corner, advising me, believing in me, guiding me and cheering me on to be me.
That is what mentoring is, for me.
And that is what my mentoring club is about – helping younger ones connect with their own sense of purpose and advising where necessary, in the areas where I (or others) have experience. I don’t do everything, myself. I don’t pretend to be anyone’s saviour, I am not a one-size-fits-all solution and I am not interested in making anyone into a clone of myself.
Oh, and I work you as hard as I work myself.
Your religion, political persuasion, parents’ socio-economic situation, race, colour – not important to me at all.
Your commitment to becoming a better you (so, not lip service) and ability to go the distance also matter a lot more to me, than whether you barely completed your O-levels, attended a two-year community college or have a Masters Degree from a Top 10 British university.
This is my way of giving back.
