The first time I saw a Romero Bryan design, I actually stopped. I couldn’t believe how easily the material floated – yet caressed the skin of the model. But beyond making couture look like a dream in living colour, he is ‘work ethic’ personified and is on a number of ‘super-achiever lists’.

12-month goal: To have an annual turnover of £1 million
Describe your outlook and what makes your designs, unique: Every garment is lined with luxurious silks, to make our clients feel just as good on the inside as they look on the outside.
Your greatest career achievement to date: Dressing Supermodel Alek Wek for the “Arise Magazine Fashion Week Awards” in 2012, was AMAZING. I spent my childhood watching Fashion TV, and being fascinated with her black beauty on the TV screen. So, to have her wearing a creation of mine, was a special moment.
On the importance of international appeal: International appeal is important to us here at ROMERO BRYAN, as we’re a luxury fashion label appealing to all women from every part of the world.
Most important piece of equipment you use in your career: Most definitely, my mobile phone: BLACKBERRY. It contains my life in a hand-held device.
A typical day for you is: I start the day at the gym/home gym. Then, I work from 9am – 11pm, in between fielding calls from my clients who are all over the globe, and managing my team. Very hectic days.
Where would you like your career to be in five years? I’d like to have a boutique in Mayfair, London as well as in other countries such as Dubai and the United States (Los Angeles).
What is the hardest career decision you’ve ever had to make? Giving in my notice at the UAL, where I was a visiting lecturer, so that I could focus on building my own brand.
Your biggest career mistake: Thinking everyone wishes you well.
Most common, yet avoidable mistake you see in aspiring couture designers: Designers calling themselves “Haute Couture” designers, when they’re clearly not.
Single piece of advice you’d give an aspiring couture designer: Believe in yourselves, as there’ll be times when no-one else will.
Fashion school, or ‘learn as you go along’? BOTH!
